"Appointment Scheduler" type feature

I frequently wish Cc had a feature like one I used many years ago when I worked in a medical office. There was a rescheduling feature for appointments where you could "unschedule" an appt and pin it into a holding area, which popped up over the schedule. It floated on top of the schedule while you scrolled through the calendar, looking for a reschedule time. When you found it, you could drag the appointment into the appropriate spot.

Sometimes I need to remove a lesson or day or even unit from it's current location, but I'm not sure where I'm going to put it yet. It'd be great to have a "holding area" for this purpose. Right now, I just click and drag randomly and sometimes if I run out of trackpad space it ends up dropping into the middle of something else, causing all sorts of new problems. I guess an alternative would be to be able to actually cut an item (to the clipboard) so it can be separately pasted.
