Archive lessons and Update lessons

I would like to be able to archive a lesson I have created but will not be teaching this year so that I can retrieve it for a future time rather than having to erase it and then rewrite it completely. I also wish that if I made updates to a lesson that I have already placed on multiple days, those updates would be reflected across the board rather than having to go in and edit each day.

    Hi Christina,

I agree about the archived issue! I’d love to build something like that.

Could you say more about the placing lessons on multiple days? Are you creating classes for each section of the class you teach and then copying/pasting? If so, we don’t recommend doing that with Common Planner for exactly the reason you mention. Are you copying them from day to day b/c you want to see them on those days or because your admin needs to see them on each day? We always like to find out where the need is coming from and see how we can help address it (we do have some ideas).

For example, I teach 8 different sections of 2nd grade elementary art and one project takes about 3 classes. Because the 8 separate classes don’t necessarily complete the exact same amount of work each class, I write my lesson once (breaking procedures into steps) and paste it onto the 3 weeks I will be focusing on this lesson. Sometimes I get into the the teaching and decide I’d like to change an aspect of the lesson which requires me to either copy and paste those changes onto the other lessons I’ve posted or erase the other lessons and re-copy the newly revised lesson back to those dates. It would be nice if when I edited the lesson it would automatically update the same lesson that is posted on a different day. It’s not a big deal, but the idea of being able to archive a lesson to use later would be EXTREMELY helpful.

Thanks, Christina! We’ll definitely be thinking about the archiving issue.

For the 8 sections of the same class, the reason you describe is exactly why we don’t recommend copying/pasting — it gets overwhelming! We recommend three things (from our most recommended to the one we least recommend)

        1. Have one class per “prep”. In your case, one class for all of 2nd grade art. In that class, you can make notes about what is different between sections. You can put that in the text of the lesson or even make a separate card called “sections”.

        2. Have one class per “prep” like above but also create one non-instructional class for each of the times you teach it. Those non-instructional classes don’t support lessons — just notes. So, you can just jot some notes on what changed.

        3. Have on canonical class and then create classes for each time you see the class. Write the lesson in the canonical class. In each of the other classes, just fill out the title and mention teh lesson you’ll teach. If you need to, you can copy/paste if that sections work will be significantly different than the other sections.

I’ll be at your FL campus tomorrow! Hopefully, I can meet you and we can talk further.
